The time has come, my three months galivanting arounf Europe is over and I must prepare to leave. Today I return th ehigher car to St. Malo, over 400 kms to the southeast. My phone gives me two options around the top of Paris and loop northwest to the coast and then follow it down to Mont St Michel and St.Malo. The alternative is to loop to the south west and pretty much follow our bike route. This option would have me drive through Renne and my recent experience with Renne has me opt for the northwest option.
The drive out of Paris was a sightseeing delight if you were not the driver. We followed the Marne down to the Seine and then turned onto the Paris E15 ring road otherwise known as Boulevard Périphérique.
This roadway varies in elevation:
- 50% is elevated above its surroundings,
- 40% is constructed in trench sections, tunnels.
- 10% is at ground level, .
The Boulevard Périphérique can carry the heaviest vehicles allowed by French regulations which makes for some scary driving.
Tantalizing glimpses are offerd of many parusian hilites, Paris Zoo, La Villette, Sacre Cour, at the Bois de Boulonge turn right and head for Le Havre. Just short of there we veer left and head for Mont St Michel.
Somewher near Avaranche there was a sign proclaiming views of the Mont, I got off the motorway and went to the viewing spot. True you could see it in the haze, would be good on a fine day but the weather was closing in.
I followed signs to a tourist spot promoting walks to the Mont. See next screen. |
