Today we are heading for Clare's place , a little north west of Angers. We ride up the left bank of the Loire to Saint Mathurin sur Loire where we cross the Loire for the last time. From Angers we head North then a little west to Mont St Michelle & St Malo and the end of our time together. Not that we were conscious of that at the time.

Shortly into our ride we came across a family on a bicycle tour and they were really dedicated. Wendy would have a little chat with each person as we passed them. My conversation amounted to "Bon Jour", "Ca va" and then quickly move on in case they expected me to talk French like Wendy.

The road is on the bank of the river most of the way. A low stone wall separating us from the river. The houses are nestled between the road and the hillsides and often they open directly onto the roadway. Posher houses are often hidden behind high walls.

After crrossing the Loire and having lunch the path we were folowing deteriorated to nothing and at that point there was a small ferry/punt on the other side of the river. We waited for a little while to see if the driver re-appeared but he didn't so we started to look around and realised there was a chain going into the river and we gave it a pull and the boat started to move. So we pulled the boat across the river, loaded our bikes and pulled ourselves across the river.
