| For the last time we had our breakfast on the banks of the Loire basking in the sun before we setoff north west along the river.
Shortly into our ride we came across a family on a bicycle tour and they were really dedicated. On looking at the pictures again now I realise that there was in fact two families, still very dedicated. |
The road is on the bank of the river most of the way. A low stone wall separating us from the river. The houses are nestled between the road and the hillsides and often they open directly onto the roadway. Posher houses are often hidden behind high walls. passing the touring families we went through a typical village stretched out along the river, Thouriel. | We then crossed the Loire for the last time Saint Methurin and road along the north bank for a while. We then followed the north bank to Guingette L' Embardee where we had lunch in an open pagola type area in a small public garden overlooking the Loire.
From there we left the Loire and headed across country towards Angers. |
The path we were folowing deteriorated to nothing and at that point there was a small ferry/punt on the other side of the river. We waited for a little while to see if the driver re-appeared but he didn't so we started to look around and realised there was a chain going into the river and we gave it a pull and the boat started to move. So we pulled the boat across the river, loaded our bikes nad pulled ourselves across the river. |
