Salzburg

22nd May 2016

The camping area was situated on the northern fringe of the city. It would have been a perilous bike ride to the city if it wasn't for the bike path that folowed a little stream around to the Salzach river and then down both side of the river to the city centre.

We spent the morning exploring the magnificent Salzburg Castle.

In the afternoon we caught a bus out to  Untersberg to enjoy the ride in one of two roomy gondolas up the mountain. When you step out at the top, an incredible view of Salzburg City, Berchtesgadener Land (in Germany) and the Rosittental deep below reveals itself before your eyes. In good visibility, you can even see all the way out to the Salzkammergut lakes as well as Lake Chiemsee in Bavaria. The surrounding Alpine world is also boundlessly fascinating: Panorama boards help you get your bearings so that you easily be able to make out the Dachstein Massif as well as the Hohe Tauern range, an awe-inspiring world of eternal ice.
Or would have if it had been open, but alas again we fail to get a view from a high mountain.

Instead we caught the bus back to Hellbrun Castle and a had a look around it .Water Palace

It was a hot day and we were glad to get back to the camping area and the beautiful pool.
