I wrote to Sophies and asked her how the weather was while Wendy was riding the the Ring and she replied :-

You are right about her short trips from here. The Ring of Kerry was unfortunately a disaster and I was very disappointed for her. The weather was truly awful. I am not normally a nervous person at all but I was worried about the high winds and where she was camping. I know that region quite well and could imagine the struggles. Yes, I remember the cat :) Always a cat!
She got the train to Tralee from here I think and cycled the Ring in poor weather. She kept in touch thank goodness but the weather was so bad she didn't get far on the Dingle peninsular and so decided to pack it in and head back on the train. At one stage I remember she said she went past a turn off and had to stop to turn the bike around, back into the wind and rain and realised how tough things were then. She was also interviewing virtually at the time I think so she was trying to juggle a few things.
