Unfortunately the rail system was under major modifications and trains stopped at Place de la Nation. Not having a metro map with me I decided just to walk down Boulevarde Diderot to the Seine. Two blocks west I came across the Canal St. Martin and decided to follow it. The canal heads north towards the Place de Bastille. It goes underground at Bastille and at Boulevade Voltaire curves north west to Quai de Valmy. It turns right through 90 degrees and becomes Quai de Jemappes. At Jaures it becomes le Basin de la Villette and at the north east end is TheĀ Parc de la Villette, the third-largest park in Paris, 55.5 hectares (137 acres) in area, located at the northeastern edge of the city in the19th arrondissement. The park houses one of the largest concentrations of cultural venues in Paris, including City of Science and Industry, Europe's largest science museum), three major concert venues, and the prestigiousĀ Conservatoire de Paris. |
