The top left hand corner is an old fort
constructed in the mid-18th century, Fort de la Cité d'Alet. It was used as a German base during WWII. One of the bunkers now houses a memorial, Memorial 39-45, which depicts St-Malo's violent WWII history and liberation, and includes a 45-minute film in French on the Battle of St-Malo.
The rest of the hill is given over to the camping area. Le Point Zero is the highst point and when we were there it was given to us as a tent site, it is in the middle of the car turning circle and without a hint of shade. We were very happy when we were allowed to move down the hill a bit and could pitch our tents in the partial shade of the hedges.
Once we were settled in we went exploring, there was a public walking trail around the outside of the headland which gave excellent views of the city and surrounds.
The next page shows sunset photos of the surrounding area.
