We rode like dervishes down the A9 past Kingussie & through Newtonmore. The camping area was a kilometer south of town and we could find no-one in charge so we went in and setup our tents in between the toilet block and the adjacent caravan.
With the hedge/treeline behind us that should protect us from the wildest of storms. I went for a little walk and found that just over the almost non existatnt back fence lay the Spey river.
We had a quick tea and retired to our tents. Shortly thereafter there was a voice calling out to us and we crawled out to see what was happening and it was the manager advising us that we could not put our tents theretly there is some rule as to how close together caravans can be parked, something to do with fire regulations. Despite our protestations that we were not a caravan and that tents were extremely unlikely to spontaneously combust we had to move out into the exposed centre of the camping ground. Luckily our small camping tents are fairly easy to move, just unpeg from the ground and drag them intact out to their new home and peg them back down. |
